Bjurstrom, Roy, of Babbitt, passed peacefully on his 84th birthday, April 4, 2013. Preceded in death by wife, Carol; brother Kenneth; and parents, Roy and Jennie (Trembley) Bjurstrom. Survived by brother Gerald (“Bill”) Bennett; children Matt (Kate Roberts), Lori (Wanda Hoover), and Gary (Margaret); and grandchildren Sarah Kratz, Hannah Bjurstrom, and Emma Bjurstrom. Roy was born in Trout Creek, MI, in 1929. He left school at age 16, following his father’s death, and went to work to support his family. Roy and Carol met and married in Hibbing, MN, where he worked for the Scranton Mine. He served in the Korean War and worked construction in Greenland in the 1950s. In 1966 the family moved to Babbitt, where Roy worked as a bus driver, a lumberjack, and a heavy equipment operator at Reserve Mining. He spent his retirement years playing cribbage, enjoying casino trips, watching C-Span and the Cartoon Network (especially Huckleberry Hound), and asking his kids to bring him female caramel rolls (no nuts) from Tobies. He was a man of few words and enormous heart, and he will be missed.
